Formation of Plural Nouns of the English Language (ID:149435)

INTRODUCTION This work contains main aspects of formation of plural nouns for students studying English. It provides them with the necessary skills to communicate successfully in both oral and written forms of the language. This work is topical, because noun is an important part of speech but formation of plural nouns is different and it is necessary to distinguish two forms of number of noun to communicate successfully. The scientific novelty of the paper lies in the attempt to describe, to explain and to comment on the formation of plural nouns of the English language. The knowledge of this type can thoroughly revise the major grammar area. The practical importance of the work is in the opportunity to apply the material to the English teaching process at the university: to study plural forms of nouns at practical English classes, at English grammar lectures and courses. The objective of the paper is to reveal and describe noun as an important part of speech and the distinction between two numbers: singular and plural. According to the objective the following tasks are set: 1) to represent the number of nouns; 2) to single out and analyse all possible elements and characteristics of noun; 3) to explain the place and importance of plural nouns in grammar; 4) to illustrate examples of formation of plural nouns. Subject of investigation is the formation of plural nouns of the English language. The structure of the work is done in accordance with the general conceptual framework adopted. Introduction contains the scientific novelty, the practical value, the objective and tasks of the research. Part I of the paper represents number as grammatical category. Part II presents distinction between singular and plural.
